Brazil Week
Why should children learn about other cultures? Because it fosters curiosity and empathy, which are important factors supporting social-emotional competence with others.
During Brazil Week, CMOM staff will be introducing children to fun facts about this vibrant country.
For example:
- Did you know that approximately 60% of the Amazon rainforest is within Brazil’s borders?
- That Brazil is the largest coffee producer in the world?
- And that it is the only South American country where Portuguese is the official language.
We’re rolling up our sleeves and surrounding ourselves with the sights and sounds of Brazil during our hands-on activities, including
- Watershed and leaf painting, where we will learn about Brazil’s rainforest and topography
- Making x-rays to honor Brazil as one of the first countries to adapt x-rays into their medical treatment
- Learning the quadriha, a Brazilian square dance, and making floats, both showcasing the country’s fun, upbeat festival atmosphere
- Syphoning coffee to use as a dye
A lot is happening each day during Brazil Week, from July 29 to August 3.
